Challenge 24
Congratulations to John David and Alex for competing in the Challenge 24 competition in Meadville on Monday. Alex received a Silver Medal for his performance. We are very proud of all of the students who represented St. Leo's School!

Art Class
On Friday, April 5th students completed a Mixed Media Art project. Each students traced their hand onto white constuction paper and used Oil Pastels to add lines and shadows. They then used watercolors to create a spring background. We combined both of these pieces together to create a 3D effect. They all turned out beautiful! Here is an example of Eddie M's project.

Week of April 8th
This week in 4th grade…
Religion- We will continue learning about the tools God
gives us to make the right choices. We
will discuss how our actions have consequences and the importance of using our
intellect and free will.
Math- We are so excited to be working on fractions. Students will be using number lines and parts
of a set to name fractions. We will also
work on Math centers this week with a focus on fraction concepts.
PA History- Students are learning about the geography of
Pennsylvania. Our Chapter 1 PA History
test will be on Tuesday, April 16th.
Health- Students will work on making healthful
decisions. Unit 1 focuses on taking
charge of our Health and learning the tools to lead a healthy life. Our Unit 1 Test is on Thursday of this week.
Spelling- Our Spelling list this week focuses on words with
the final /j/ and /s/ sounds. The
Spelling Test is on Thursday of this week.
English- Our Grammar skill this week is focusing on
Adjectives and Articles. We will
complete a graded worksheet on this subject on Wednesday in class. The Simple
Solutions assignments for this week are #109,110,111, and 112
Reading- Our Reading story this week is, “The Last Dragon”. The story focuses on a young boy who goes to
visit relatives in China Town. The boy
discovers traditions that his heritage still practice.
*Writing Journal Due Thursday
*NO SCHOOL on Friday for students.

about Thomas, who is in Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Thomas
really needs prayers from all of us here at St. Leo’s. Let’s do all that we can
to let Thomas and his family know that we care about them and are praying for
his recovery.

This week in 4th grade
Religion- we will be attending Mass at 8:30 every morning for Holy Week. Students will be taking their Chapter 16 Religion test on Tuesday. They will also be learning about the Triduum on Wednesday.
Math- students will complete the Ch 7 review test on Monday for homework. We will play a review game during class on Tuesday. The Chapter 7: Division math test is on Wednesday. Click here to go to a great website full of Division Math games.
PA History- we will begin our first chapter in PA History this week.
Health- we will begin our first chapter in Health class. Students will be learning about how they can make healthful decisions and not risk behaviors.
Spelling- students have a short list this week with their Easter spelling list. There will be a non-graded test on Wednesday.
English- the weekly Grammar skill is on using exact adjectives. The Grammar skill quiz will be on Thursday, April 4th. There is NO SIMPLE SOLUTIONS this week.
Reading- students will be studying different forms of poetry this week and next week. They will begin writing their own poetry after the Easter break.

Grade
Religion- we will
be learning more about our Fifth Week of Lent and explore the Sacraments at the
Service of Communion.
Math- we will
continue practicing division in Chapter 7.
The Chapter 7 Math test will be on 3/27.
Social Studies-
we will finish our Chapter learning about the country of Argentina. On Thursday, students will be taking their
Social Studies test on the people and places of the N.E. Region.
Science- on
Monday, we will be reviewing for the Chapter 12 Science test. Students will take the Ch 12 Science test on
Tuesday.
Spelling- our
spelling list this week focuses on words with the final /e/ sound.
Grammar- our
Grammar skill this week is on Be Verbs: has, have, had.
Reading- our
Reading story this week is called Marven
and the Great North Woods. The story
is about a young boy who goes to work at a Lumber camp in Minnesota.
Simple Solutions- This week we will be completing Lessons #100,101,102,103,104.

This week in 4th Grade
NO SCHOOL MONDAY- President's Day
Religion- We will be completing Chapter
11. Test will be on Thursday. Keep up your Lenten Promises!
Math- On Monday, we will be learning
about multiplying money. We will be reviewing Chapter 6 on Wednesday and
Thursday. Our Chapter 6 Math test will be on Friday of this week.
Social Studies- Students will be learning more
about the importance of the American Revolution to the Northeast States.
Science- This week we will be learning more
about physical and chemical changes that occur in matter.
Spelling- The spelling words this week all
have –ed or-ing endings
English- Our vocab words deal with the
story, Heat Wave. Vocab quiz is on
Thursday. Our Grammar skill is on
present, past, and future tenses. Simple
Solutions quiz on Friday.
Reading- Our Reading story this week is
titled, Heat Wave!. by Helen Ketteman. A
fantastic heat wave hits a Kansas farm, roasting the gees, popping the corn in
fields, and causing other distressing events.
A farm girl tries a few clever ways to get rid of it.

Week of February 4th-8th
This week in 4th grade.....
Religion- We will be finishing Chapter 12 on the Sacraments
this week. The Chapter 12 Religion test
will be on Wednesday.
Math- Students will begin Chapter 6 in Math class this
week. This chapter focuses on multiplying
two-digit numbers. How exciting!
Social Studies- The students will complete Chapter 5: The
Northeast Geography on Monday. We will
complete a chapter review in class to help students recall important
material. The Social Studies test will
be on Friday of this week.
Science- We will begin Lesson 2 in Chapter 11. This lesson focuses on tools we use to
measure matter. We will be completing an
experiment on the density of liquids this Friday.
Spelling- our Spelling list this week focuses on words with
/er/, /l/, and /el/ endings. Test will
be on Friday.
English- our Grammar skill this week is on main verbs and
helping verbs. Check out the Grammar
Skill page added to the blog to practice.
Reading- Our Reading story this week is called, “Cendrillon”. The story is narrated by Cendrillon’s
godmother, who has a magic want. She and
Cendrillon go to the ball, but when the princely Paul later arrives with the
slipper, Cendrillon refuses a magical change back into her beautiful clothes. We will be comparing this story to the story,
“Cinderella”.

First Friday Mass
Parents,
The 4th Grade is in charge of the Mass Readings on Friday, January 4th. The following lists shows what part of the Mass each student will be reading. If you are able to, come and see your child participate in First Friday Mass. Honors will be awarded after Mass to those students in grades 5-8.
