Fourth Grade Poetry

The 4th graders have been learning about Poetry.  The following poems were written in response to the title, "I Can't Write a Poem".  Students were to create a List Poem with the excuses on why they couldn't write a poem.

I Can’t Write A Poem

by Eddie Messieno

No way man, I can’t write a poem

It’s weird

Not fun

Boring

Too hard

No meaning

I don’t have an eraser

I only have one thing

My pencil is broken

I don’t know what to do

There you go, I’m done

I don’t have anything

You like it?  Thank you!

I Can’t Write A Poem

by Michael Gresco

Forget about it

Too long

I’m sick

Not enough ideas

I’m asleep

My pencil snapped

My paper ripped

What’s a poem?

How do you write it?

I can’t see

It’s too much work

You mean we’re already done?

You’re joking?

Hope you like it then!

I Can’t Write A Poem

by Alex Bon

What?

No I’m not

Impossible!

I broke my pencil

I lost my paper

I’m too dizzy

I’m hungry

People steal my ideas

Is school over?

I’m thirsty

I’m bland

Time’s up?

I only wrote why I couldn’t

What? You want more?  Joking?

Sure.  Can I have some paper?

I Can’t Write a Poem

by Mary Cerroni

I’m not writing any silly poems!

I’m too tired

I can’t see the board

My pencil is broken

I’m dehydrated

I’m scared of poems

I’m too hungry

I can’t think

I’m too hot

I forgot breakfast this morning

I have to be excused

Wait,

Are you telling me I wrote a poem?

Whoppe! I’m awesome at this!

Want me to write another one for you?

I Can’t Write A Poem

by Theo Aiello

How about we do it tomorrow?

I can’t rhyme a poem

I can’t think of any good ones

I just want to go home

What’s the point of this?

My pencil is dull

Where do I start?

I just came from gym and I’m tired

How about Math instead?

I can’t even think of a poem

I only have nine lines

Actually, I take back what I said about doing it tomorrow.

I Can’t Write A Poem

by Vivian Mader

I can’t write a poem!

My pencil is broke

I’m out of ink

I don’t have time to think

I write all the time, what good will it do?

Besides, who cares?

No one would read it I’m sure

I can’t think straight

I must be insane

A poem can’t be that hard can it?

What? I got an A?

I don’t know what to say!

I Can’t Write A Poem

by Luke Sorg

It’s too long

I’m tired

I’m thirsty

I’m hungry

I hurt my arm

What’s there to write about?

I’m going to my friend’s house

I’m hot

It’s too hard

I don’t know what to write

It is time to stop?

All I got are these weird excuses

You love it?  That’s awesome!

I Can’t Write A Poem

by Kira Eckert

Give it up!

I can’t write a poem

I don’t like them

I’m soooo sleepy

I am just back from gym and I am hot!

My coat is on the back of my seat, its bothering me

We have a little bit of time

I just want to get out of school

So I don’t have to write a poem

Poems just aren’t my thing

I am wearing tight shoes

This is the blues

Oh! The teacher likes my list poem?

I got an A+!
